Howdy Shadowverse players!

Recently, I have been playing a substantial amount of unlimited. Most of which was due to the fact that unlimited was the format for the in-game Grand Prix mode. The other was because I was interested to see what the most commonly played decks in unlimited were. I think it goes without saying that unlimited is a much different format than rotation. So I want to take the time to go over a few of my thoughts on the unlimited format.

  1. Combo Decks are incredibly strong!

Unlimited has access to a few different types of combo decks:

  • Atomy Shadow (This could also be defined as a tempo / midrange deck)
  • Dimension Shift Rune
  • Roach Forest

Each of these decks have something in common; they are capable of winning the game without ever interacting with your opponent whatsoever. While combo decks are very strong against control decks but weak to aggro decks, each of these decks are flexible enough to be able to adjust to combat their bad matchups making them surprisingly versatile!

  1. Daria is still….really good!

I am sure this comes as no surprise to many people, but Daria is still a force to be reckoned with in unlimited. Despite being in a format where there are plenty of board wipes and control decks are more prevalent, the deck is still capable of putting up results against some of the best decks in the format.

  1. Aggro decks are in full force!

In rotation format, you don’t really see a lot of aggro decks in general. This is due to the fact that outside of sword, the tools for aggro in rotation are rather limited. Well, not in unlimited! Aggro sword and aggro blood decks are all over the place in unlimited format so it’s best to be prepared for that if you are playing in the SVO unlimited qualifier this weekend because you can certainly get blown out by it if you are not properly prepared.

So Aya, what line up would you bring to an unlimited tournament?

Excellent question random internet reader! I would probably bring my favorite decks to play. I’m a player who focuses on playing decks that I am familiar with rather than the “meta” decks. Below you can find my personal deck selection:

Midrange Sword

Control Blood

Reanimator Shadow

Final Thoughts

Don’t expect to go into unlimited with a rotation based mindset and expect to win. Unlimited is far less forgiving than rotation format and it is very easy to be caught off guard. It’s kind of a shame that unlimited is only once per season. I would love to see unlimited more in the future but this is what we have now. So let’s make the most of it and have some super exciting matches to watch! Until next time!
